Braintree 1 St Albans 1 (19/03/11)
With the unseasonally warm spring tempting me to go to a football match, anywhere, Braintree was picked out as venue on the grounds that my driver for the day hadn’t been there, and it didn’t look crap.
It’s not the easiest ground in the world to find, even with a sat nav, being hidden away behind houses, with only a side lane off a sidestreet leading to the ground.
It was actually a little better than I thought, with cover on three sides, and a decent view from the fourth. Not as good as the view from the flats behind, but at £12, considerably cheaper. Very strange houses down that side lane too – like two storey mobile homes made out of concrete.
Braintree were pushing for promotion to the Blue Square Premier, although the team had something of an off day against struggling St Albans, who were the better team for much of the game. That Braintree blew two points will have been long forgotten, as they went up, and St Albans slipped out the other way.
